Is there a list of businesses convenient to bike and pedestrian access

Submitted by jbr on Sun, 2008/08/17 - 9:14pm.

I recently had dinner at El Mezcal next to the bike trail, Third creek Greenway. Very convenient to the trail. I thought back to the 1980's when my girlfriend and I rode bikes sometimes to the movie theatre and for dinner.

Is there a list of restaurants, movie theatres in the area that are convenient to biking or walking access?

We can drive downtown, park and walk to various things and same with west town mall. But what are some other locales that might be a nice destination as part of a casual bike ride like El Mezcal and the third creek trail?

Magpies and Glowing Body

At the moment there isn't a direct greenway connection to the North Central/Broadway area - recently known as Downtown North. However, a nice ride down Gay St. through Emory Place, and hopping across Broadway onto Tyson will lead you to Old Grey and the National Cemetery. This is a nice place to visit on a bike.

From there, take Pruett or Bernard back to Central, you'll be directly across the street from the Colorama Building at 846 N Central.

As of the first week of September, both Magpies Bakery and the Glowing Body Yoga center will be located there. The Glowing Body will have a small cafe, called the Glowing Bowl, that will serve delicious meals. Magpies will be happy to offer you cake and cupcakes.

You can park your bike on the backside of the building on Irwin. You can enter The Glowing Body or Magpies from there at the rear of the building. Magpies also has an entrance on Central. The Glowing Body website is at Link.... Their menu is available.

You could also get take out and ride back to the cemetery for a picnic.

Magpies is moving out of Downtown/Old City? Or, are they opening a second location?

just a little move

Magpies is moving 8 blocks north on N. Central, just past the intersection of Broadway and Central.

Depending on your stamina on

Depending on your stamina on a bike, many of the restaurants in town are "within biking distance".

Any of the eateries on Market Square (Trio, Tomato Head, Gus's, etc)
Downtown Grill & Brewery (try the State Street Stout)
Regas
El Mescal
Savellis on Neyland

Trikke

Anybody out there happen to own a Trikke?

Savelli's

I ride the 3rd Creek trail fairly often and have wondered about El Mezcal. I'll try it soon. I typically ride the trail to Neyland and thru campus, then the fort, and over to Market Square where the options are great.

If you are looking for something near the 3rd creak trail, try Savelli's on Sutherland. You have to get off the trail, but the restaurant is very near the parking lot on Sutherland. The only downside is that they don't have a great place to lock your bike.
