This morning 16 to 20 Purple Martins held a conclave at the new (this year) house. Had put it up in Feb. and it was soon occupied by two families of martins. (And one of parking lot sparrows)Eggs came, babies came and today a party came to watch the first flights. I guess the grandparents and uncles and aunts must stop by because we never have this many normally. Neat.

I always have a hard time

I always have a hard time telling apart young purple martins and barn swallows. I haven't seen any solid "purple" purple martins around here in a while.

I guess all of us really

I guess all of us really should get Martin houses since Knox County has decided to quit spraying for mosquitoes.

Quite honestly I don't think I ever realized any benefit from that program anyway and it's a pleasure to watch these guys catching insects.

I've always wanted a Martin

I've always wanted a Martin box. Maybe I'll just get one.

Great picture.
